Hello! I’m Emily, and I welcome you to my blog about all things food, entertaining and other odds and ends. French silk pie (yep - there is a low carb version of that, too), cauliflower, cheese and coffee are a few of my favorite foods. Food, photography, flowers, travel, entertaining and wedding planning are a few of my favorite things. I love sharing these passions with others, which is what I do here at KetoCanapé.
My husband ‘Boo’ and I live in Houston, Texas. He is my sounding board, support, adventure-seeker, and partner-in-crime. He’s also the grill master behind all of my grill-centric posts. We have an Italian Greyhound named Sadie. We love to travel, spend time with family and cook!
Low Carb For Life!
About three years ago, we stumbled across low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets. Thanks to following a strict ketogenic lifestyle, we have lost a combined 120 + pounds. I am healthier than I have been in my entire life.
I have suffered from back lumbar spine degenerative disc disease since I was in my twenties. I am one of those "unlucky people" with an ailment that does not match my age. I also struggled with psedotumor cerebri in my early twenties from being overweight and on birth control. Occasionally I post about my health struggles, back issues and things of the sort. Weight loss and exercise have played a role to improve the health of my body.
KetoCanapé
About my blog name - KetoCanapé. The ‘keto’ part of my blog name comes from the low-carbohydrate/high-fat (LCHF) ketogenic diet. The word canapé (pronounced ‘kan-uh-pey’) means a base topped with a savory spread and sometimes fine garnish. The word canapé is often associated with finger foods and bite-sized appetizers. I crafted low carb variations of canapés on my blog, and offer many other fine entertaining foods.
After starting the LCHF way of life, I often found myself struggling to find resources dedicated to entertaining on a low carb diet. I started experimenting with different nut flours, cheeses, spices, vegetables, and even a few low carb fruits to come up with the delicious and beautiful low carb dishes on my blog. I am constantly learning and experimenting with new foods, flavors and techniques, and strive to give you new and fun recipes as I continue moving forward.
Cooking & Entertaining
I have been passionate about cooking since I was a girl. By the time I reached college, I found myself hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for the extended family, hosting numerous dinner parties, and even cashing in on a few catering gigs in the college years. Cooking was just a passion, but with KetoCanapé, I get to make that passion my way of life. I am ever grateful.
I want this blog to inspire others to cook for friends and family, laugh, love life, and share with the world that low carb food isn’t always just ‘meat and cheese’. It is just as beautiful, tasty and amazing as anything made with a piece of bread or pasta. So go grab a cutting board, and get cooking!
