Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine ground beef, sausage and Italian seasoning in a bowl. Using a cookie scoop or hands, form 1″ to 1.5″ balls. Place on a grate on a foil-lined cookie sheet, and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the internal temp is 150 to 155 degrees. (The meatballs will continue to cook a little once you pull them out of the oven – plus they are going in a skillet for searing).
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the vegetable oil until shimmering. Add the meatballs and give a quick sear until slightly browned. Turn once. Lower the heat to medium.
  4. Add the marinara sauce to the skillet. Gently stir the meatballs and sauce until the meatballs are coated and the sauce is heated. Remove from heat.
  5. Gather toothpicks, basil and mozzarella pearls for assembly. Tear the basil into pieces slightly smaller than the size of the meatballs.
  6. On the toothpicks going top to bottom, arrange one mozzarella pearl, one piece of torn basil and one meatball as the base. Place assembled meatball canapes on a plate and serve.
